About

Grace's parents were inspired by Hanson, a ’90s pop band formed by a group of home schooled brothers from Oklahoma, to teach their children at home and encourage them to explore passions outside of the traditional education system. As a child, Mimi experimented with horse riding, dance, and stage school, singing as a member Children’s Choir. Mimi says that the choir gave her her purpose and motivation to sing. In an interview with Vogue she said

"It’s [the choir] helped me learn the proper way to sing and not ruin my voice completely. But I’ve just always sung, all the time. I sang so much that my family had to shush me."In 2015 Mimi's brother encouraged her to perform “Ocean Eyes,” a song he had written and produced for his band at the time and later put online. The song quickly gained success, and Mimi signed with the boutique label Darkroom in the summer of 2016

"Mimi G's vocals are
like futuristic sounds"

However, this song was slightly different to others because it was aimed at another singer. Mimi Grace said it was about this girl named Loren Gray that kept copying her and she told her brother, Finneas, that she wanted to write a song about it.
